Field notes

Notes from the rows.

Small things we write down as the season moves. Useful if you're deciding when to come.

Week 41

The tomatoes came early this year

We planted late and they ripened anyway. Groups visiting this month will almost certainly go home with something red in their hands.

Week 39

A bed we lost, and what it taught the children

Two rows of greens went to a pest we didn't catch in time. We left them standing for a fortnight so visiting groups could see what actually happens on a farm.

Week 36

Marigold along the soft paths

Planted at the edges to keep the soil in place before the rains. It also means every photograph taken here in October looks better than it should.

Good to know

Little things, often asked.

Field note 07

Morning light is usually the nicest.

Good to know

Closed shoes are happier here.

Seasonal note

Harvest depends on what the soil gives us.

Farm rule

Please don't pick anything unless we say it's ready.

Visitor note

Most children remember the mud.

In the soil

We rotate the beds every season. Some fail. That's the lesson.

“Morning light is usually the nicest.”
